Chocolate paleo porridge

Chocolate paleo porridge

This is possibly one of the most decadent tasting breakfasts I have ever made. I’ve been working on this recipe for a while and I finally think I’ve mastered it, I can’t tell you enough how unbelievably delicious it is and how simple it was to make. I could literally eat it all day every day and I have made an extra-large batch ready to dip in to for as many breakfasts as I want for the next few weeks.

Sweetened only by two Medjool dates, you do have the choice of using less or more. For the sake of my blood sugar I usually use one, but for the perfect taste I definitely recommend 2. Dates are a great source of fibre and contain high levels of the essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium, copper and manganese – offering your body a perfect start to the day without any nasty additives.

 What you need:

*1 tbsp raw cacao
*2 tbsp ground almond
*1 tbsp macadamia nuts
*2 Medjool dates (use 1 for less carbs!)
*1 tbsp desiccated coconut
*1 tsp cashew nut butter
*2 cups Almond butter
*2 cups Almond milk

Directions:

  •  In to a blender place the raw cacao, ground almonds, macadamia nuts, Medjool dates (de-stoned!), cashew nut butter and desiccated coconut
  • Pulse until coarse – I like my porridge to be as smooth as possible so I blitz it until fully ground
  • Place mixture in a pan with almond milk and place over medium heat
  • Mix with a wooden spoon and keep stirring constantly until porridge has desired thickness
  • Serve immediately with a selection of berries, cherries, desiccated coconut and raw cacao nibs

Suitable for: Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Dairy-Free, Vegetarian, Vegan, Paleo

  • Hi Emi,
I’ve just discovered your blog through Instagram and it’s fantastic timing as I’m about to embark on Paleo to try to combat my IBS. This breakfasts looks great as I’m struggling for alternatives to eggs, which I love but eat far to many of! Can I ask where you buy your more unusual ingredients like raw cacao from? Thanks! Hannah

    • Hi Hannah,
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment and I’m so glad you found my blog! I buy all the unusual ingredients from Whole Foods (raw cacao, cacao nibs etc) or Holland and Barrett (Raw Honey, nuts, chia seeds etc- They sell raw cacao too). Medjool dates, ground almonds etc you can get from any big brand supermarket. I have come across a couple of people with IBS who swear by the Paleo lifestyle. It definitely takes your body a good 4-6 weeks to adapt to change but once it has you will hopefully reap the benefits. Keep me up to date as I’d love to hear how you are getting on. I am currently working with my wonderful friend, trainer and nutritionist to write a 28 day plan which I hope to launch over the next 10 days or so. Good luck!
