26 Week Pregnancy Update
Wow, the last couple of weeks have literally flown by and I am now 26 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Where is the time going? There’s been quite a bit of drama in our lives lately. Ports (husband) had a car accident 9 days ago.…

I am so excited to share this recipe for hazelnut chocolate ice cream pops, not only because they literally taste like Nutella on a stick but this recipe also has absolutely no sugar in it. It’s creamy, chocolaty and indulgent but only has 3g carbs PER LOLLY. It’s…
For the last couple of years I have only used natural deodorants. Through using them I have found that I no longer have skin irritations on my under arms (something I used to suffer with on a daily basis), my under arm hair growth is much…
I literally cannot believe how quickly the weeks are starting to fly by now and technically there are only 3 full months left before the baby is officially meant to be evicted from its current womb residence. Still feeling massively under prepared but I am…
At last we are in my favourite month of May and the sun has finally got its hat well and truly on! The skies have been completely cloudless and I am freckling up at a rate of knots. It’s so nice to feel the warmth and…
Whether you have a health condition or not, we should all want to look after our bodies and nourish them with as much nutritional goodness as we can get. I am not a preacher and I certainly would never force how I eat / or…
Somewhat optimistically I bought a pair of non maternity leggings yesterday, black and stretchy in a size medium. They looked perfectly fine when I held them against myself and declared to Ports (husband) that there was plenty of room for my favourite womb lodger. However,…
Other than the first week or so of pregnancy where I had a huge obsession with eating the most sour oranges I could find (and before being struck down with Hyperemesis Gravidarum), I haven’t had any cravings. Not one. It’s the first question that everyone who…
I thought that I would start doing a weekly post on what I ate Wednesday. I get so many messages asking what I eat on a normal week day, so I thought I’d start making this a regular thing in the hope that it might inspire people…
I don’t really know where to start this post, especially since I have only started blogging again very recently after 4 months of nothing. Â I’ve been meaning to write something for a while but every time I start, I stop. For fear of I don’t…
Breakfast for me is all about starting the day on the right track, for not only by health, but for my mind too. It’s something I look forward to as soon as I wake up and it’s something I will make a priority not to…
I am so happy that the clocks have gone forward and that we can finally enjoy the beautiful evening light. It not only means that my husband drives home along the motorway in the light (which somehow makes me feel a little less on edge),…

Hello and welcome to my website, thank you for stopping by.
My name is Emma Porter.
I am founder of The Low-Carb Kitchen, author of Life Without Diabetes (out July 2025) and co-author, with Dr. David Cavan, of The Low Carb Diabetes Cookbook (published in 2018).
Most of my time is spent as a low-carb recipe developer and diabetes lifestyle coach. I am in the process of studying to be a Psychodynamic Counsellor.
I am regularly found running low carb cooking classes here in Cheltenham. I love helping people reignite their love of cookery by making simple ingredient changes and cooking from scratch.
I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all when it comes to diet or lifestyle, but I do believe in giving people a choice, building healthy habits, avoiding ultra processed foods, understanding food labels and investing in quality ingredients with a focus on proteins, healthy fats, .
My work has been published in BBC Good Food, The Times, The Telegraph, Women's Health Magazine and most recently Top Sante.
My recipes have been shared at big events including a Diabetes UK health and nutrition event where my 2 ingredient chocolate mousse was served to all attendees as part of the lunch.
I was diagnosed with T1 Diabetes at 17 yrs old (20 yrs ago) and I wear an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor.
I follow a lower carb lifestyle as a way of managing my blood sugars alongside my insulin.
In 2022 I created The Low Carb Baking Bible ebook which is full of low carb baking classics.
I hope you enjoy the recipes.
