Mother’s Instinct
When the surgeon told me that it wasn’t a case of when they would operate, it was now or never, I had no words left to say, other than “please look after my little girl”. Where do I start? You will have to bear with me…

With the Festive / party season fast approaching, wood burners being lit and the heating cranked up, these mini sage and apple savoury bites are the perfect taste tantaliser. They are easy to make and delicious eaten hot or cold. I usually make around 12-14 per batch,…
A couple of months before the birth of our beautiful baby girl, Florence, Silver Cross very kindly gifted us their latest Special Edition Henley Pioneer. We had spent months road testing buggies, going from store to store to try out the latest push chairs and trying…
I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I promise I have a good excuse. On 10th August 2016 our beautiful baby girl, Florence Rose, entered the world very calmly via a planned C Section (at 38 weeks gestation). As you will all know…
(Note: this post was written ages ago and I’m so sorry it’s so very very late, but I wanted to post it to keep continuity!). Firstly I have to apologise, having said I would be updating once a week from now it just hasn’t worked…
A few weeks ago I was sent a grocery “essentials” box from a company called Bearfaced Groceries , an online grocer who deliver straight to your front door. It was full to the brim with incredibly fresh fruits, veg and grass-fed beef, salmon and chicken. The one…
So I am now doing an update a week as I feel that with only about 4 weeks left I want to share as much with you all as I can and I love the idea of being able to revisit these posts in the…
Where is time going?!?!?! It’s crazy. I am definitely turning in to my mother as it seems every other sentence I speak starts with “time flies”…and it’s true! The scariest thing was that the receptionist at the Dr the other day wanted to book me…
There is nothing better, in my opinion, than a Sunday roast followed by some cinnamon spiced apple pie and homemade custard. It’s one meal that brings people together, families, friends and acquaintances and it’s certainly a popular one for us. I love preparing big feasts…
Firstly, sorry for the recent lack of activity on my blog. As you have probably seen on Instagram / Twitter, we have been in Majorca for one of my best friend’s wedding, which I was a bridesmaid at! The run up to leaving the country was pretty…
Every time I make these muffins I do so with the intention of having them in the fridge for the week so that if any one’s hungry there’s something delicious to hand. However, no sooner are these made, they are eaten. They are probably one…
Wow, the last couple of weeks have literally flown by and I am now 26 weeks and 5 days pregnant. Where is the time going? There’s been quite a bit of drama in our lives lately. Ports (husband) had a car accident 9 days ago.…
Hello and welcome to my blog, thank you for stopping by.
My name's Emma and I live in Cheltenham with my husband and daughters Florence and Clemmie.
I am the founder of the Low-Carb Kitchen and co-author, with Dr. David Cavan, of The Low Carb Diabetes Cookbook (published in 2018 and available on Amazon).
Most of my time is spent as a low carb recipe developer and diabetes lifestyle coach. I am regularly found running low carb cookery workshops at wellness retreats or running cooking classes here in Cheltenham to help those living with diabetes. I love helping people reignite their love of cookery by making simple ingredient changes and cooking from scratch.
I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all when it comes to diet or lifestyle, but I do believe in giving people a choice, building healthy habits, avoiding ultra processed foods, understanding food labels and investing in quality ingredients with a focus on proteins, healthy fats, .
My work has been published in BBC Good Food, The Times, The Telegraph, Women's Health Magazine and most recently Top Sante.
My recipes have been shared at big events including a Diabetes UK health and nutrition event where my 2 ingredient chocolate mousse was served to all attendees as part of the lunch.
I was diagnosed with T1 Diabetes at 17 yrs old (nearly 20 yrs ago) and I wear an insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor.
I follow a lower carb lifestyle as a way of managing my blood sugars alongside my insulin.
In 2022 I created The Low Carb Baking Bible ebook which is full of low carb baking classics.
I hope you enjoy the recipes.
